THE final judging for the "I Love Brunei Darussalam" nationwide competition will be held today at the Bandar Seri Begawan Waterfront Gallery.

Twenty finalists made it through to the final round for the photography competition, and five finalists for graphics. For painting, 10 finalists made it into the final judging round for the open category, while six have been selected for the 13 to 18-year-old category, and another six finalists for the under-12 category.

The photography category had the highest number of submissions throughout the entire competition, with 298 entries.

The painting competition drew in 108 paintings for three categories: participants under 12 years of age, between 13 and 18 years, and an open category.

Although there were 12 entries received for the video category, no finalists were selected during the internal judging process.

The competition which opened in January to Bruneians and residents until March 15, is organised by The Brunei Times in conjunction with this year's 28th National Day celebrations.

The judging panel will comprise ambassadors and high commissioners, as well as prominent individuals in Brunei's art arena.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Lela Diraja Dato Seri Setia Hj Hazair Hj Abdullah, the guest of honour at today's event, will place the blue ribbons on winning entries for each of the three competitions.

An exhibition of finalists' entries and selected entries will be showcased at the Waterfront Gallery between now and May 27. The public can enter the gallery for free from today onwards starting at 4pm.

Thereafter, the opening times for the exhibition are on Saturdays to Thursdays from 9am to 4.30pm, and 9am to 11.30am, 2.30pm to 4.30pm on Fridays.

The aim of the five-category competition was to provide a platform for Bruneians and residents to put on their creative hats and express their patriotism and love for the nation. It also allowed participants to show their appreciation, commitment and pride to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the country.

The five competitions were painting, essay writing, video, graphic design and photography. The final judging for the essay writing competition will be held soon.

Prizes will be given by Baiduri Bank, Royal Brunei, Setia Motors Sdn Bhd and AV Electronics Sdn Bhd. The Brunei Times
